Jane Tipton Designs - "Jewelry for the Everyday Goddess"
Lions & Dogs & Paisleys
(Oh my!)

Though these pendants may seem entirely unrelated, what they have in common is that, rather than coming from northern India's Rajasthan region (where most of my amulets come from), these tiny vintage darlings are from southern India, and are quite hard to find.  I just acquired a "fresh litter" of charming pups, courageous lions (for the "kitty" lovers), and pretty paisleys (a symbol of eternal life).  I still have a few that have not been designed into necklaces yet, so if you have a favorite gemstone you'd like with your new "pet" or paisley just send me an email.  Enjoy!

Iridescent Pearls & Garnet Lion Pendant Necklace - NEW & SOLD
Iridescent Pearls & Garnet Lion Pendant Necklace - NEW & SOLD
The freshwater pearls in this necklace seem to have a rainbow of undertones and overtones making it pick up whatever colors it is paired with. Tiny little garnet accents add a touch of berry color, and Balinese silver accents are used throughout. The lion pendant may be smaller than a dime, but he looks brave just the same. I'm sure it will come as no surprise that the lion is known for his courage in India, too, and has been adopted by the Sikhs as one of their symbols. "Singh" is a common Sikh and Hindu surname meaning "lion." There is a pretty pearl and garnet charm by the hand-crafted toggle clasp. 16.75" long. Although this exact necklace has sold, a similar piece may be possible. (#N304, 7/21) $175

Green Labradorite Paisley Necklace - NEW & SOLD
Green Labradorite Paisley Necklace - NEW & SOLD
To be a jeweler, you have to relish the details. There are so many that make me happy with this necklace. I like the "tree of life" imagery on the paisley, especially since paisley is a symbol of eternal life. I like how this labradorite is the color of foliage. I'm charmed by how the tiny garnets contrast like little berries next to the Balinese silver accents throughout the necklace and on the charm by the toggle clasp. This necklace just has a very earthy feel to it. It has a bit of color while still being able to be worn as a neutral. At 19" long, this necklace is great if you like your necklaces longer, or it can be worn as a mid-length layering piece. It would be great with the "Balinese Companion" necklace on page 5 of the More Necklaces section. (#N276, 10/11) $195

Labradorite Dog Necklace - SPECIAL ORDER
Labradorite Dog Necklace - SPECIAL ORDER
Labradorite was first discovered in Labrador, Canada, but the name makes me think of labrador retrievers, too, so this combination tickles my (admittedly nerdy) funny bone. There are 23 carats of faceted labradorite with an unusual deep khaki green body color that give it an earthy feel (with just a flash or two of the characteristic labradorite blue). Balinese silver accents are used throughout, and tiny faceted pyrite beads flank the larger silver beads adding to the warmth of the piece. There's a labradorite and pyrite charm next to the toggle clasp. 18" long. Although this exact necklace has sold, a special order may be possible. (#N277, 9/23) $185

Red Agate Lion Necklace - NEW & SOLD
Red Agate Lion Necklace - NEW & SOLD
A saucy little vintage lion pendant with 3mm faceted agate beads that have been dyed a rich red color. It's a perfect complement to any neutral or animal print (grrrr... ;-) Balinese silver accents are used throughout, and there is a pretty agate and smokey quartz charm by the toggle clasp. 16" long. (#N262, 8/24) $175

Tiger-Eye Lion Pendant - SPECIAL ORDER
Tiger-Eye Lion Pendant - SPECIAL ORDER
Doesn't he have a sassy step? This little guy just makes me smile. Also, knowing that this necklace has TWO cat references makes me very happy. I'm sure it will come as no surprise that the lion is known for his courage in India, too, and has been adopted by the Sikhs as one of their symbols. "Singh" is a common Sikh and Hindu surname meaning "lion." This necklace has 25 carats of faceted tiger-eye and Balinese silver accents throughout. There is also a pretty tiger-eye charm by the hand-crafted toggle clasp. 16.75" long. Although this exact necklace has sold, a special order is possible. (#N254, 8/8) $165

Smokey Quartz & Garnet Paisley Amulet Necklace - SPECIAL ORDER
Smokey Quartz & Garnet Paisley Amulet Necklace - SPECIAL ORDER
I've learned so much about Paisleys lately! The design came to India during the Persian Empire and is known there at a "boteh" or "buta." It was only after demand for paisley printed cloth in Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries exceeded what the East India Company could import, that the Scottish town of Paisley started to produce their own, and we have known the design by that name ever since. The symbol is believed to be a stylized cypress spray, and is a symbol of life and eternity. Indeed, the Cypress of Abarqu is believed to be 4000 years old. This dainty paisley pendant is paired with 19 carats of faceted smokey quartz, tiny purplish garnets, and Balinese silver accents. A pretty garnet and smokey quartz charm accents the hand-made toggle clasp in back. Although this exact necklace has sold, a special order is possible. The paisley itself will look more like the other paisleys on this page. 17" long. (#N253, 8/8) $175

Red Jasper Dog Pendant - SOLD
Red Jasper Dog Pendant - SOLD
This tiny dog pendant from southern India is paired with 26 carats of 3mm faceted red jasper beads, and even smaller faceted hematite beads for a subtle sparkle. Balinese granulated silver accents are used throughout, and do such a nice job of echoing the texture around the edge of the pendant. There is a sweet hematite and jasper charm next to the toggle clasp. This necklace is a bit longer than most at 18.75" Although this exact necklace has sold, a special order is possible. (#N247, 8/6) $185

Turquoise Dog Pendant
Turquoise Dog Pendant
Faceted turquoise beads really make this necklace pop. Balinese silver accents are used throughout, and tiny hematite beads complement the patina on this vintage silver piece. There is a turquoise and hematite charm next to the toggle clasp. Like all the pups on this page, it would go perfectly with a pair of Dorea earrings (page 2 of the earrings section). 17" long. (#N220) $185
